Topic starter

while driving from alabama to illinois i made a pit stop
when getting back to my truck the key fob and key would not open the drivers door
i was able to open the pass door and the alarm went off locking the starter etc
i had it towed to a locksmith that could not get a new fob programmed, but did fix the door lock ("Smart Entrance" system)
The "security" lamp on the dash would not illuminate
I ended up removing the security computer and which allowed to get everything to work except the key fob
any ideas what the problem is?
I am thinking it may be the door sensor
TIA

could be the door sensor but the only person that's going to be able to figure out is a Nissan factory technician with a Nissan factory scan tool even I don't have scan tools that go that far

Your best option is to install an OLD school remote starter with the lock unlock controls on it.
Its not normal for those modules to go bad in those cars. Usually its the door switches and other extra devices in the system... but in this case leave the security module out if it solved your problem.

There was an old remote starter which I liked a lot better than the directed electronics junk. BullDog out of Steubenville Ohio. I have some of their old remote starters with the keyless entry. Find one of their newer kits online and put it in. That will give you your two key fobs back for the truck and at a remote starter. Thats the best option in this case. They also have an alarm that sandwiches with it for security.

I have the electrical manual for that car. I don't think that security system is very smart nor programmable. I think its just dedicated chips with no firmware upgrade possible on that model.... so fixing it with a scan tool is slim and none and slim left town.

Put in the remote starter and consider yourself lucky you escaped relatively unscathed. Nissans can be an expensive prick to fix electrical problems on. Most of their shit is made by Hitachi in those vintages. They made good stuff, but it is just different and in some cases they are just plain weird.

Like their optical distributor... and the 81 fuel injection that had two spark coils and if they just added two more they could have eliminated the distributor... :O  and went distributorless a decade before everyone else.
