Hey guys, bit of a pickle here. I have a 2001 Nissan Sunny (B15) with an Sr20Ve engine with 5 speed manual transmission. A couple days ago I noticed that my second cam lobes were not activating, usually at 5,000rpm, you feel and hear the difference in the engine. I tried scanning the car with a cheap bluetooth scanner using the torque app, no communication with ECU, took it to a local mechanic who has some other scanners and he wasn't able to as well. Can the 2 be connected, the car use to be able to scan no problem before, so it's a new issue.
I followed some of Scotty's advice, i checked all the fuses, all were ok, I checked with a multimeter pins 16, 4 and 5 on the OBD port and got 12v across those, checked the ground to the body of the car and that's good as well. Could it be a wire somewhere? if so how do I narrow it down or can it be my ECU going or gone bad, the car still starts and runs fine (besides not getting the performance of the second cam) I also checked to see if the check engine light is working when I turn on the ignition and yes it is lighting.
Sounds like your ECU may be going out. There are not too many reasons for multiple scan tools not to communicate with the vehicle.
