I have a 2006 Hyundai Elantra with a 2.0 4 cylinder and 4 speed automatic transmission that when the engine warms up it makes a ticking sound. My mechanic says its a rod bearing going out but I've also heard it could be a bad wrist pin. How could I check for myself to see what the problem is

Bad rod bearing is usually a heavy knock. Could be piston slap.

Also possibly could be valve noise due to worn or clogged hydraulic tappets.
