2000 Toyota Camry Clunking

Topic starter

2000 Toyota Camry, 310k miles, automatic.

clunking sound on drivers side, I have a video of it attached, it's happening around 23 seconds, you can hear the clunk and you can see the wheel shift while it happens.

Replaced Strut, Lower Ball Joint, Sway Bar Link, CV axle (Sound is still going on after that.) I tried doing the test for the Control arm, the control arm doesn't move even if I bang on it with a hammer. I tried pulling on the tie rod end and twisting it doesn't move or twist.

Had Firestone change my steering rack about a year ago but I don't think that is related.

The sound and motion of the wheel back and forth indicates you still have worn parts there, which is not a surprise on a 22-year-old car with over 300K miles. The forces involved in driving the car exceed what you can easily apply with a hammer. Look for worn suspension bushings, wheel bearing, or even a cracked control arm.

Also, stay away from Firestone and other chain shops (Pep Boys, Midas, etc.). They tend to be gyp joints of questionable competency to the point they may not even realize they are ripping you off. Find a good independent mechanic in your area.
