2000 Toyota Camry - License Plate Screw Question

Hello everyone,

I will be inheriting my wife's 2000 Toyota Camry once the local dealership stops being silly and concentrates on delivering her 2022 Corolla on time this week.

I failed my mission to remove her license plate because one of the two screws was rusted and locked in, I had to ask my wife to seek help to drill out the screw.  This is no surprise because the license plate has been on the Camry since she began driving from 2009-2010 and we have never messed around with the plate or screw.

I obtained a pair of replacement metal screws but I'm trying to think more critically before I re-insert my eventual new plate and screws, is there anything I can do to treat the screws to prevent the screws from rusting in?  I am prepared to make it a monthly bucket item along with checking tire pressures, checking fluid levels, etc. to unscrew and re-screw the plate.  Fingers crossed I can still loosen the screws on my 2010 RAV 4 license plate!

Thank you.

monthly bucket item ... to unscrew and re-screw the plate.

If you spend 5 minutes doing this, that adds up to 10 hours of work over 10 years.

I think I'd rather just drill it out.

Go with stainless steel: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Custom-Accessories-Stainless-Steel-License-Plate-Fastener-4-Pack-93367/205092017

Use an anti seize compound on the threads, or grease.
