Morning All,
Recently received my fathers 2001 Chevy Silverado after he passed away earlier this month. It is a 2001 Silverado with a 4.3 L V6 with 261000 ish miles. Ive never owned a truck before and he usually took care of the maintenance. It has been in MA for all of its life, but he took really good care and there is very little rust. I know that is a lot of miles on an engine but i keep reading that the 4.3 while not powerful, was really well built. Should I keep driving it until something breaks? Is it to the point mileage wise where I should inquire about having it rebuilt and have a full tune up done or if im going to have it pulled for the tune up, replace it with the more powerful 5.3 L. What other maintenance should I do to other parts like the transmission, axle seals and such. Again super green when it comes to this stuff. Thank you for your time.
I would review all his service records and continue his plan. Sounds like he took great care of it and as a good local driving and working vehicle I would use it until a major failure like trani or engine.
Thanks for the reply, that is the problem. He knew what he had done, but never wrote anything down.
So im guessing just the basics for now, oil and filter, check spark plugs and the sort. and see what happens.
