Lost question when I went to take pictures of mechanics quote.

Did you receive? Please say yes. Cry

Bottomline is lexus has 153,067 miles. Mechanic wants almost $3000 to fix vapor canister($1019.18 , vsv ($175.12) shop supplies ($59.81) ...labor & tax $406.00. PLUS value cover gasket - remove & replace $589.00 (Says 3.80 hours work). Breaks need work too. Total would be just under $3000.00

QUESTION: Is it worth it to fix it...especially with car prices the way they are? Or is he ovecharginging me?

worth it to fix? at $3000 it's more than the car is worth, so No.....over charging you?....Yes....

Way too much money. To give you an idea, the vapor canister for that car on Rockauto is $274. (I don't know how difficult it is to install.)

"Is he over charging me?"  Is the Pope Catholic?

What a rip off. Order the parts on rockauto and watch YouTube videos to show you what you need to do.

None of these are overly difficult or time consuming.

Those are excellent vehicles, yours should have a lot more miles to go if it has been maintained well. Please take it to some other mechanics and see what they say. The brakes are obviously very important, but maybe you only need new pads? You might not need any repairs at all. If you actually do need to put some money into it, and it has been reliable for you, I would probably do it. As you say, used car prices are ridiculous. Good luck.
