i have a rear main leak. Car runs perfectly i just keep putting a quart of oil in every two weeks along with regular oil changes. Is there an oil additive that will stop the leak without damaging the engine parts? I remember when STP used to be recommended as an oil additive but someone said it ruined their engine. I just don't want to pay to remove the tranny just to fix the rear main. Please let me know. I have 300,000 miles on this and it runs like a champ. Mechanic said intake manifold has never been off which means it has the same plugs in it since 2001. So fixing the rear main without all the work and cost would help me a great deal. Thanks.
Thanks very much i will try to find some AT-205.
If you can get your hands on a bottle, try AT-205 Reseal. That's Scotty's go-to for rejuvenating rear mains without the labor cost.
I tried Bar's Rear Main Seal Repair in my 1979 Catalina, AT-205 is unavailable around me. It seemed to work. People have asked what good substitutes are for AT-205, that might be in the FAQ section, I see it asked quite a bit.
