Rear main seal replacement

I have a 2000 Honda Civic EX with 182k miles on the original engine and transmission. I am diligent on its maintenance such as timing belt and oil and fluid changes etc. This car has been in the family and it has sentimental value. I also had it repainted last year. It’s my daily driver and I do about 30+ miles a day city/highway. When having my oil today changed my mechanic noticed the real main seal is starting to fail. He said the repair will be at least $1200. The car has been very reliable and I’ve heard that civics can last a long time. Is it worth putting the money into the seal replacement or should I just let it fully fail and add oil as needed? $1200 is still cheaper than a car payment.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Ha! Do this buy some AT 205? Reseal next time you change the oil put that in the oil. I will often stop it from leaking. If it does, just add that every time you change the oil it often works

Thanks for the advice! Keep up the good work. Appreciate the help and your channel.

I second Scotty’s recommendation. It’s a band aid, but often times it works. My rear main seal is leaking on my 99 accord. And I’m using AT205 to nurse it.

But I’m just waiting it out, until I need to do my clutch. Because the transmission needs to come apart for both jobs. So might as well kill two birds with one stone.
