- Hey Scotty, I have 2002 Ford Escape 3.0 v6 , 136k miles, the problem has been there over 10 years the engine idle goes up by itself more noticeable when the car is parked or waiting at the traffic light but it’s not happening all the time, take it to the dealership two times they can’t find any thing, the check engine light never comes on, it is driveable but lack of power I still get 21 miles per gallon combine, over the years I have change many parts try to get it fix but no luck, I have change spark plugs/ all coils mass air sensor/ intake gaskets upper and lower/ pcv /egr valve/egr vacuum solenoid valve, when I scan it the long term fuel trim is negative and the short term is positive and jumping, I use the smoke machine to find the vacuum leak but it seems ok no smoke coming out, please help!

Well if short term is negative and long-term is positive that means it's having to subtract fuel when it's idling an ad feel what it's going fast so it sounds to me like you have a problem with a fuel injectors perhaps try having them pressure cleaned by a mechanic though they may need replace
Thanks for the reply, I will tackle the fuel injector, but could that rear exhaust header leak cost the problem? They are 6 bolts and two of them snapped, thanks again Scotty and stay healthy we need you!!
