Hey Scotty, I have a 2002 saturn sl2 1.9 4 speed automatic with 130,000 miles, the ac does not work. The compressor is operating but it blows hot air inside the cabin, I replaced the ac condenser with a brand new oem one, pulled a vaccum on the entire system and filled it with fresh freon but still blows hot air inside the cabin. When I look at the manifold gauges, both the low and high pressure side are functioning fine with the air compressor engaged and the electric fan moving plenty of air through the condenser. I am not sure what else to do, is it possible for a ac compressor to engage but still not work? I also did notice 2 things, when freon was put into the system, I don't feel the low pressure hose get cold and condensate, and I don't feel any heat coming from the condenser, also it is the original compressor. Please help 🙏
Why was the condenser replaced, was it leaking? Was the AC working before it was replaced? Did you charge in the correct amount of refrigerant by weight? (If you have a variable-displacement compressor you can't judge charge level by pressures.) Was the receiver/drier replaced? Among other possibilities you may have a bad expansion valve.
The ac was not working before changing the ac condenser. I changed the ac condenser because it did leak freon so I thought that was the issue, I also used a scale and put the right amount of freon in the system, also I have not replaced the Receiver/drier.
The drier should be replaced any time the system is opened up, especially an old one that may already be saturated.
A bad expansion valve seems likely. (I know I had a similar problem years ago due to a defective new expansion valve. Everything looked good but no cooling. Installing another new valve fixed it.)
One of my old buddies had the same car. Replacing the Evaporator solved the problem.
