i have a 2002 vw beetle and when i put it in reverse it makes a rattling noise like plastic..but goes in reverse fine...and in drive fine...only makes that noise in reverse when put in gear only...not while backing up.....just started this also

Is it a "real" Beetle (air-cooled rear engine and produced in Mexico through 2003), or a "New Beetle" which is basically a Golf with a trick body?
Either way I'd be looking for something loose underneath that's rattling around, like a rusty 21-year-old catalytic converter heat shield.
