Hi, sorry if this has already been asked i did try to look but couldn't find it. My 2003 tacoma 5 speed manual with the 3rz fe recently started making some horrendous squealing sounds. I knew that the power steering tensioner pulley was in its way out so i replaced it thinking that was the issue. It worked for about a week but the squeaking came back. After another look i noticed alot of vibration in the alternator belt and then i saw the Harmonic balancer pully shaking. I reached down to check and see if it was just the belt but the pully itself has about 1/4 inch of play. My question is what tools do i need to replace it and how difficult is it ti replace for a beginner.
You might try first tightening the harmonic balance bolt with a 19 mm socket. If that doesn't work, the balancer will have to come off and it is a fairly complicated job, usually requiring removal of the radiator to get proper access to everything, and a special puller the get the combination balancer, pulley off. If you have pulleys bolted to the front of the balancer you can sometimes reach them with a 12mm deep socket and tighten them up.
Thank you doc i will try to tighten it up and go from there!
