Have a 2003 Corolla automatic, that I recently bought for 1k. it has 215000 miles, I have put about 5k of those on it, averaging about 32 mpg with mixed driving. Previous owner had meticulous service records 83 to be exact. Runs and shifts great. However, recently it has developed an issue of extended crank time once the engine is warm. I though possibly leaky injectors so replaced all 4 with AC Delco injectors. Seems to b worse after. Problem is intermittent if allow fuel pressure to build before starting it never happens. I also replaced plugs, coils, mass air flow, air filter and some suspension components. Was thinking maybe fuel pump but don't have any other symptoms that would suggest that, or maybe a check valve of some sort? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I would replace the fuel pump and the fuel pump regulator some of those have the regulator built on the fuel pump anyway the regulator is probably not working right
Hey Scotty, sorry to bother you again. I finally got around to changing the fuel pump, regulator and filter. Thought had fixed the issue but had extended crank time again. Also some what of a rough idle, not sure what else could be. Thanks again for any help.
P.s. also noticed the vacuum switching valve clicking pretty frequently at idle. Not sure if relevant just thought would mention it.
Right on!
I had the same car and issue. It’s the pressure regulator. You can change this yourself if so inclined. It’s part of the sending unit in the gas tank. Access under the rear seat. Lots of videos on how to change. Regulator is about $40, do the pump at the same time and change the sock filter. About $125 in parts. I changed mine in about an hour. Be cautious with gas fumes.
