Looking to buy a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup 4.7L V8 with 5sp manual, new clutch, 4x4.  High mileage 173k.

Ad says it has. a slight exhaust manifold leak. Asking $4k.

First owner had it for 16 years, second for 9 months, both private.  Carfax says no accidents. Vehicle passed MA inspection 9 months ago.

Looking for utility truck to haul household stuff locally as 2nd vehicle.  I will put an OBDII reader on it but codes could have been cleared.

What should I look for during the first inspection of this vehicle before I commit to find a mechanic to do a complete inspection?

Thx.

Check to see if the readiness monitors are set. If not drive it and have a mechanic look at the live data. But I'd say if codes were cleared and monitors aren't set that raises red flags and walk away
