I have a 2003 Dodge Ram with the 5.7 liter Hemi and 120k miles. A few months ago the engine started stumbling and dying when I come to a stop, or when shifting from drive to reverse or vice versa. It did trigger a check engine light (misfire) in the beginning and I had replaced the sparks plugs and wires, they were the originals. Since this is only an issue at idle, my mechanic cleaned the throttle body hoping that would fix it. Truck still dies at stops randomly, and no check engine light. I've read about IAC motors, however my mechanic said my truck does not have one since it's throttle by wire. The computer should be controlling the idle. Any ideas what to check next? Other than this the truck runs great, plenty of power just like when it was new. Stumble and engine dying happens at both cold and full operating temp. Sometimes it's good for day, next day it will die 5 times. It usually starts up right away.
check your fuel injectors if it's not that then it's probably electrical
Thanks, I'll see if my mechanic can investigate.
I did find something similar is this forum post: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/3rd-gen-ram-tech/358276-5-7-hemi-low-rpm-hesitation.html
My mileage has tanked as well, I'm lucky to get 10MPG, I used to average around 14-16MPG.
