Toyota RAV4 2016 Transmission Fluid Servicing

Hi Scotty,

Been watching your videos for a long time! They are great!

I'm trying to get my 2016 RAV4's transmission serviced. It's coming up to 50000 miles and 5 years old. Dealer told me I have two options, 1) to flush it which will apparently changed all of the fluid or 2) to drain and fill, which will only change 2/3 of the fluid. Based on learning from your video, I don't want to flush it. The drain and fill seems to be better. The dealer told me in either choices, they will not drop the pan.

My question is, should I drop the pan, maybe I have to do it myself or find a mechanic that will? Just to clean out the bottom of the pan (is dropping the pan necessary in drain and fill?). Also, the dealer said no need to change the filter as that is just mesh, and metal pieces get stuck to the magnet which is located at the bottom of the pan. Should I change the filter (seems the OEM part is very expensive)? If not changing the filter, should I at least take it off and clean it?

Lastly, if you do suggest dropping the pan to clean the bottom of it out, do you suggest replacing the seal or gasket around the pan or I could have the existing one reused.

Thanks very much!

You probably don't need to clean the mesh @ 50k. Drain + fill is fine.
