Hey there,
I've got a 2004 Toyota Matrix XR, AWD automatic transmission, with 155k miles.
I bought the car with 148k miles, the transmission feels perfect. However, I'm wondering if I should change the fluid. Scotty and others have said the fluid shouldn't be flushed if it has never been changed because the gunkiness of the existing fluid actually helps it shift gears and, once the fluid is changed, there can be slippage.
So, is 155k miles too many miles to change or flush the tranny fluid?.. should I just leave it and hope that my Toyota transmission holds up for as long as it can? I want this car to last as long as possible, so I want to treat the tranny well for prevention, but I also don't want to change the fluid and break my tranny!
Thank you!
You definitely do not want to flush the transmission. You do not want to flush any transmission or engine. As for changing it, sometimes with American cars if it hasn't been changed the friction of the dirty can keep the transmission working. However, on that car, a drain and fill shouldn't cause any problems.
I'm wearing a pair of high mileage underwear. I'm not sure when they were last changed. They feel perfect and don't slip off at all. I can walk and run and everything just fine. I'm wondering if I should change them or just hope they last as long as they can. I'm worried if I change them they won't match my socks.
