Hi Scotty,
Love your channel, I've learned a ton. I have a 2003 Expedition with 5.4 Triton (automatic trans, 2 valve) that I picked up from a friend for $800. Its the police interceptor version. Currently 245k miles. Still runs strong and sounds good. I have noticed one issue I'm hoping I can fix myself. When I accelerate the AC cuts out sometimes. I can still hear it blowing but it stops coming out the front vents. As I ease off the gas pedal it will start blowing out the front vents again. I also notice the air isn't as cold as in my 2010 civic or 98 civic. I did have a friend that is a mechanic charge the system but it didn't seem to make a difference. Wondering if it's time for a new compressor maybe a vacuum issue? Thanks in advance.
Mark
The problem with the vents is very likely a vacuum issue. Vacuum lines on a vehicle that old are likely to be in bad condition and vacuum canisters may have developed leaks. Poor cooling performance can be caused by a number of things such as low refrigerant, bad condenser fan, condenser fins flattened and/or dirty being a few. If the compressor is not binding up or making any noise and pressures are in range you don't need a new compressor.
