2003 Ford F-150 Brake Caliper Replacement

I'm looking to replace the Front Calipers on this vehicle, it's got 230k miles. They Never been replaced. I was wondering if I need to be worried about the ABS system. Can I just regularly bleed them like most vehicles? Or do I need a scan tool to bleed it? I also have a leak with the ABS MODULE, any tips on what I should do with it would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you're quick, you might be able to put the caliper on the brake hose quickly enough to not lose a whole bunch of brake fluid. The biggest risk for getting air in your ABS module is having a bunch of fluid drain out of the system. Keeping the reservoir cap on will slow fluid loss. My '99 Ranger blew a rear line and leaked almost all of the fluid out of that circuit. The shop didn't need a scan tool to bleed it. Your F-150 is probably different. A dealership would be able to tell you for sure what needs done.

I personally wouldn't just replace that caliper. I would replace the hose as well and inspect the hoses on the other four wheels for wear and consider replacing them as well. They're almost 19 years old and likely well used.

The leaking ABS module may need to be replaced. I'm not real familiar with them and whether or not individual parts can be serviced. I would err on the side of caution, since any leaking brake fluid can be a safety hazard waiting to happen, even if it doesn't affect braking right now. Others will likely chime in on that.
