This is a followup to my previous post. My uncle gave me his 2003 Ford Focus that has been sitting for 8 years. It did not have much fuel in the tank and the battery was deep cycled dead. After charging the battery, I was able to start it and got it to idle for 15 mins to running temp. It had a CEL on, but I did not have reader with me at the time. The next day, I went to start it again. This time it would run for about 30 seconds then cut off. I scanned the ECU for codes and got P1233, P0460, and P463. Did the Fuel Pump just fail? Right before I start it I can head something in the back turn on and then turn off. I assume it's the Fuel Pump Driver. I have about 4 gallons of new gas and the fuel gauge moves slightly. I don't want to put anymore in if I have to drop the gas tank to replace the fuel pump.
P1233, tells me the Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) needs to reset. I found the IFS switch in the passenger kick panel. I reset and tripped it to make sure it works. When I turn the key, I can hear the Fuel Pump Driver in the rear, then when I tripped the IFS, and turn the key, I don't hear the Fuel Pump Driver. So assume it's working. What I don't hear is the hum of the fuel pump. So it safe to assume I need to replace the fuel pump? Is there anything else I should check before replacing the fuel pump?
If you do not hear the fuel pump sound when you turn the ignition key, you should replace the pump. When you do that, make sure you replace the fuel filter too. Good luck.

The tank was empty when I first checked. Which led me to believe someone had started the car until it ran out of gas. The battery was only about a year old when it was Deep Cycled, surprisingly I was able to recharge it and it seems to be holding a charge. I'm just waiting for the new Fuel Pump and Filter to arrive in mail.
If you started it with 8 year old fuel in it it probably full of crap and rust old fasioned method you need 2 people put fresh fuel in change fuel filter start the car put your hand over the opening for yhe air intake rev hard it will stall but the vacume sucks all yhe drap from yhe injectors and all the small filter i used to do yhis with old carb cars as i had cats sitting where yhe air intake was and cat hair blocked the jets lol
