Help bronco 2 not running properly!

  • Hello so I recently got my old 1988 ford bronco 2 started again after it sat for maybe a year and a half. It is an automatic and it’s got the 2.9 efi. I’ve done numerous things to this truck including new spark plugs, wires. Tps sensor, map sensor, tfi sensor, idle control valve, ignition coil, ignition switch, both fuel pumps, alternator, battery, distributor cap and rotar, as well as starter and solenoid and of course new fuel filters and all the filters all around. I’m sure there’s more im missing but anyways it turned out the stater solenoid seemed to be wired incorrectly and I finally was able to turn on lights and hear it crank after I switch the battery cable and starter cable on the solenoid. How it was running before I have not the slightest clue because I haven’t touched nothing since it didn’t run. I’m also quite positive my starter is no good because it was having a very hard time starting and it started pretty much started  right up after I hit the starter with a hammer. Ran it for like 30-45 minutes for the first time in a year and a half and decided why not give it a little throttle, now mind you this truck idles high around 1000 rpm’s I opened throttle barely to about 1200 rpm’s and the truck kind of slowishly cut off was not able to start it again after beating on starter again didn’t want to try it too many times and flood my engine better yet strip off the teeth of the flywheel so I’m done fooling with it for the night. But would you happen to have any suggestions as to why it cut off maybe a starting point for me. I’m guessing it’s running lean and the engine is taking in too much air not enough fuel when I opened the throttle just the slightest. Vaccum leak? Clogged injectors? Any of the sensors maybe failed prematurely? Any advice would help. I absolutely love this truck and refuse to give up on it! Thanks so much

Well, I realize if you let those old fuel injected vehicle set, the fuel injection systems generally crap up. You might need a new filter. A new fuel pump. You might have to flush the whole system out and you pray that the injectors aren't gunked up too

Wow I was not expecting you to answer, love the videos man you helped me a lot I’m just a youngin trying to learn about cars😄. Thanks for the reply and yea I’m hoping it’s not my fuel pumps as that was one of the last things I replaced before they went bad and I made sure to completely empty the tank before it sat for so long because I know that fuel will do a number to a fuel pump if it’s just sitting there. I will go ahead and change the fuel filters again, just got done taking off the starter, I will be going into my work to test it. Now I seen a video on how to clean the injectors it was on a 89 bronco 2 I believe same engine 2.9l what he did was got a super concentrated fuel injector cleaner through the fuel rail so it went directly to the injectors man did that did the trick for his truck. But I’m not sure we’re to get the said cleaner at as I don’t think they sell them in stores any idea what it may be called or something close to it. Id love to not have to take off everything to get to those little buggers lol. Thanks again man really appreciate it!
