2004 Tahoe wont start

Topic starter

I have a 2004 Tahoe with a 5.3, 200k miles. When I go to start the vehicle the starter engages the flywheel and the flywheel turns yet the vehicle does not start. All you hear is a clicking noise. If the starter was bad wouldn’t it not engage the flywheel? Thank you

have you tried boosting from another vehicle?

Yes I did

I see. Well go ahead and watch the videos in the FAQ and see if you get anywhere.

A clicking sound is typical when the battery or starter are too weak to crank the engine. If the starter engages the flywheel it means the solenoid is working but that doesn't mean the rest of the starter is OK. Are you sure it's cranking? Can you see the fan belt and accessories spin while cranking?

How old are the fuel and air filters? Does a scan tool show RPM while you're cranking? Does the engine briefly start if you spray some starting fluid into the air intake?

New starter or a new battery.
