I have a 2008 honda civic. What is the correct protocol for checking transmission fluid and adding extra fluid? I turn on my car and check it and leave it on to add fluid. I had the front of the car on jackstands and the level of fluid was affected when i checked it......is the level of fluid affected when checking on jackstands ?

What I understand the car should be level when checking/adding.

Please check your owner’s manual. Usually, the entire procedure is described in there, for checking ATF (and other fluids).
But yes, check all fluids with the vehicle on a level surface.
