I’m looking at a used ultra low mileage 05 Camry LE. It’s a one owner no accidents With only 28500 miles on it. It’s got the 2.4 liter engine. It’s only driven 8000 miles in the past 10.5 years. You car is being sold as is by the dealer and it’s not available to test drive because the brakes are shot. Should I be worried that the car hasn’t been used enough and probably only driven very short distances where the car doesn’t get up to operating temperature. It’s being sold for 3000obo USD. Should I be worried about this cars lack of mileage ?
thank you
Stan
I would be concerned with the lack of maintenance on that car. Definitely pass on it. Miles are not everything, trust me. They tell you how far a car went and that's it.
Toyotas are great cars but not unkillable. Though the Hilux comes close. But lack of maintenance will take down any machine in the end, cars being no exception.
Well yes, you need to see proof to verify that the mileage is genuine.
But more importantly, when you say the brakes are shot, what exactly is the problem? Is it out of fluid? The pads/discs are worn? Callipers stuck?
If I were you, I’d look at another Camry which has working brakes. If the brakes are shot on this one, who knows what else is going to need replacing.
I feel this may be a Pandora’s Box worth of problems awaiting you.
Can you have a trusted mechanic visit the car & check it out thoroughly, atleast? Even then, without a thorough road test, there are just too many unknowns.
It’s a pass on this one, for me. Look for another low mileage Camry for a little premium. It might turn out to be a penny wise, pound foolish decision to buy the Camry you’re looking at.
Brakes should not be shot at 28500 miles. Seems a little fishy. I would look at some other car options to see what is out there. Good luck to you
It probably has 128,500 miles or something like that becuase the brakes are worn. Check out the interior as well to see if it looks near perfect because the seats should look brand new with that mileage. Maybe ask a mechanic to check it out as well to see the fishy codes with his fancy scan tool. Good luck on it and I think if that is the real mileage, that is one hell of a deal!
