Should I buy this Camry

I'm looking at a 2005 Toyota Camry XLE V6 to buy. The seller is a private owner, and bought the car new. It has 64,000 real miles on it. It belonged to his now deceased wife.

He showed me a couple receipts for oil changes he had done at a local Toyota dealer, but doesn't have any other significant  paperwork about the cars history. I saw the title and he did purchase it new.

The car needs new tires($600 max), and the rear bumper is dented at the corner and needs repaired and painted($400 to $800 at local body shop). The rest of the car is in excellent condition. It runs great and the engine is quiet. I thought the ride felt a little bouncy, but I chalked that up to the worn out tires. I am retired and only drive about 5,000 to 10,000 or less miles a year.

The owner is asking $7500. I offered him $6000 and he said no. Should I raise my offer to $6500? Is the car worth that much?

Thanks

Lou

It's only worth what you're willing and able to pay for it.  Have you had it checked out by a mechanic yet?  Repair costs on this 17 year old car are going to mount up.

I'm sorry @louie424 that you didn't get the answer you wanted but what I gave you is an irrefutable fact of life, like it or not.  You are not always going to get Scotty to answer your question; another irrefutable fact of life.

I must not understand how this works. Wasn't Scotty or one of his representatives supposed to answer my question? Who is Doc?

It is not possible for Scotty to answer every question. It is up to the other participants and the moderators to chime in and answer based on their particular experience and knowledge.
