My dodge stratus engine light just recently came on and then after trying to pick up speed it started idling and jerking . Not sure what would cause this ?

that's why cars have diagnostics (the engine light). Have it read by a scanner to see what the problem is.

if your not in CA you can goto a Autozone and get it scanned for free. Other major parts suppliers do the same.
