2005 Ford Excursion 6.8L Reliable?

Topic starter

I am looking at a 2005 Ford Excursion Limited with the 6.8L Triton V10 and 4WD down in Florida. This SUV/truck has 147,000 miles. My question is this a pretty reliable vehicle? I would get a mechanic to inspect it but would be flying down there to pick it up. Thanks for any advice or thoughts on this. The Ford dealer wants $11,500.

Sounds like a lot for a nearly 20-year-old Ford. You can get an idea of failure trends for that model here:

Do you really need a vehicle that large? My former coworker has a Ford Excursion with a Triton V10 as well. He only uses it during his vacations to Florida. It gets halfway decent gas mileage on the highway when he goes 65. Stop and go traffic I would imagine you can literally watch the fuel guage go down. Other than that, he doesn't drive it as all because it's way too much of a gas hog.
