Find the neutral safety switch. It’s a button usually located either by the shifter or located by the steering wheel. Some fords have they sandwiched in between the 2 pieces located in between the steering wheel and dash that basically covers the steering column. Remove 3-5 bolts underneath the column and there should be either a button or a metal lever that when pushed should allow you to shift gears. If your not sure, go to YouTube and look up neutral safety switch with your year, make, and model and should give you a visual look at how to get to it. (Btw, fords are know for this issue too.)
