like the title says accidentally put the wrong oil weight in and now the car goes into limp mode. I was thinking of just trying to change the oil first.
Change the oil to the correct specs ASAP.

Which oil does your car need, and what did you put in?
You probably have a warning light in your instrument cluster now which you should get scanned.
My car uses 5W-20 according to manual. dealer put in 0W-20. It’s got a lot of miles so it burns a bit of oil overtime. I usually top off the oil (5W-20) every 3-4 weeks. I should’ve clarified I’m going to take it to a mechanic.
Substituting 0W-20 in place of 5W-20 should not have caused a problem, it may be coincidental.
I think the problem is not your oil. See if a free diagnostic at Autozone reveals anything.
