Hi Scotty;

I'm car shopping, and would like your input.  I'm looking at 2 cars:

2005 Toyota Camry, $11,000, 39k, 1 owner.  KBB says this car should be worth between $6,287 & $7,514.

2005 Volvo V50 T5, $6,500, 103k, 1 owner.  KBB says this car should be worth between $2,060 & $3,071.

Both cars are well-maintained, according to the CARFAX report.

What would you choose?  Also, why are the KBB prices so much lower than the listed prices?

Thank you!

Kate

Both are horribly overpriced for cars nearly 20 years old, particularly the Camry. Greedy sellers are the reason. You cannot count on Carfax for the cars not being in wrecks since not everything is reported to them. The Toyota mileage is suspicious. In general a Toyota will be more reliable but cars that age will be prone to age related failures regardless of make or mileage. How much longer are you expecting a car that old to last?
