Scotty, I want to buy a 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero. Owner says transmission slips between 2-3 gears. 5spd automatic. It is in Kentucky. When are you going to be back in Tennessee, and would you be interested in checking out the transmission and or repair or replace? The car is in great shape otherwise. 157000miles. 4cyl 2.0. FWD.  Thanks, Freddie

Scotty doesn't repair/replace transmissions. That's a job that requires a lift and other equipment.

It probably does need replacing, which is an expensive job ($5k+). If I were you, I'd buy a car that's fully functional. Why buy people's problems?

You can check our FAQ for contacting Scotty directly.

I strongly urge you to have somebody inspect cars BEFORE you buy them. Not after.

No. Just - no. I say the following as someone who has been driving Saabs for 40 years and still uses one as a daily driver:

Although the parts company ("Orio") was a separate entity that survived the Saab bankruptcy and continues to make OEM parts available, some parts may be hard to come by when you need them and they can be expensive.

The company is long dead. There are no dealers. Most mechanics do not know how to work on Saabs and do not have the equipment to service them. (Orio does maintain a thin network of official service centers but they are few and far between.)

The 9-3 is more GM than Saab and that one has a bad transmission right off the bat.

To my knowledge Scotty does not do major repair work such as transmissions. You would need to have  the work done by a transmission shop ($$$$).

I highly recommend you look elsewhere to spend your money.
