[Solved] 2006 Colorado front brake dragging

Hi Scotty -

I have a 2006 Colorado crew 2wd Z71. Within the last 2000 miles I had new hubs put on the car at a local chevy dealer (as well as some other fuel-system related stuff).

When I drive it I notice the right front wheel gets hot and I can smell the brake slightly.

How can I tell if it is the caliper (replaced around 20k miles ago) or the rubber brake line that is failing?

The truck has 187K miles on it and still uses only 1/2 quart of oil in 4000 miles - I have always done my own maintenance and use Mobil 1.

Thanks for your time and welcome to Tennessee!!

Sounds to me like a locked up caliper, take it apart and see if the piston is stuck shut.

Update - just replaced the caliper and line - cost just over $100 for parts. Problem solved and assume it was the caliper but I'll never know for sure.

Interestingly - Autozone only had calipers with bracket for $11 more than just the caliper.

At least they had that in stock.

If it didn't do this until after you got it back from the dealer which thats how your making it sound. Take it back to them and have them fix it they obviously didn't put it back together the right way. Dealers are horrible places to get your car worked on because they rarely make a proper repair.

Thanks for the answers.

The truck was worked on in early spring. I rarely drive it anymore - we moved from Illinois to south-central TN a couple years ago and now live in a small town hence the low driving mileage.

When I took it into the dealer, I did not have access to a place to work on my cars; now I do.

If I take it back in all they will say is "yea, it needs a caliper" or this or that - it won't be something caused by what they worked on, according to them. Been there, done that.

A caliper should be cheap but it also could be the rubber line. I wanted a way to check that - so I will pull the caliper and see if it is stuck "clamped".
