Transmission bumps into gear

Hi Scotty,

I have a really nice running 2006 Honda Civic 3 liter automatic, but I am feeling the transmission bump into gear when I first start, going from park to drive when cold.  Also, when I am stopping at a red light, the transmission might bump down sometimes unless I do it real slow.  It's like it is slipping and then a second or two later, catching and giving a hard clunk.  The trany runs perfect all the rest of the time and shifts great.  Please tell me this is something simple like a sensor 🙂

Love the show, thanks,

How frequently has the transmission been serviced over the last 17 years?

I have had the transmission fluid and filter changed twice, once about 10 years ago and again just recently. The car runs strong and shifts great, just the clunk when starting and stopping. I was thinking it was the torque converter, but I was hoping it was a sensor that wasn't telling the car to shift properly when cold or when down shifting at a stop. The car has been very well taken care of.

Thanks for any advice you can give 🙂

At what mileages? because that does sound like a valve body issue caused by infrequent service.
