2006 Honda Pilot

Hi Scotty,

Chris from Rhode Island here with a question re: a 2006 Honda Pilot EX with 194,000 miles. I have an engine light on and with VTM4 code. Technician is telling me that the spark plugs are fine, but the valves need to be cleaned since they are sticking and not allowing proper fuel mixture in. Suggest a valve service that will cost around $1,000. Is this worth it for the is vehicle?

Thank you,

Chris

Is there any other codes. Does your car have any drivability issues.

If you don't have a scanner go to AutoZone they do it for free. With out knowing the codes it's going to be extremely difficult to diagnose anything. Vtm means Variable torque management system. The check light means there's a diagnostic trouble code stored in the computer.

The engine idle feels choppy. They did the prescan and said cylinders 2,3,5 and 6 were showing up. The car was in a couple of weeks ago for the engine light and VTM-4 code. They tightened the spark plugs and cleared the code. It came back on 2 days ago.

First I would check the plugs yourself. Sticking valves is unlikely but if it is you can buy gdi cleaner and do it your self for 15 dollars.
