It was on the news that NHSTA has allowed vehicles with automated driving systems or self-driving vehicles don't need to have manual controls such as steering wheel or brake pedal. I don't think it's a smart or safe move totally taking away the ability for human intervention. Do you think it will ever really happen/mass production at some point?

To add to my question is it even a reasonable and/or safe move if we leave it all up to the software with no human intervention ability?

If I had to guess, with all of the technology that is out already, they be starting some tests between 2040-2050. Mass production-2075.

No brake pedal, no gas pedal and no steering wheel. What could go wrong? EVERYTHING. I am not going to simply rely on a sole computer bring me from point a to point b.
I don't think so because the auto companies will never accept full responsibility. Somewhere in the purchase contract or owner's manual will be some microscopic print stating that the owner is still responsible for the operation of the vehicle, regardless of whether it's "self driving" or not.
