Hey everyone,

at the dealership I work at we just received an As-is silver 2006 Lexus ES330, it’s priced to sell at $3000 and they are willing to sell it to me for $2500, it only has 190 000 km on it and looks pretty good on the outside/interior but I have no clue about the mechanical/electrical situation. Are they difficult/expensive to work on and would it be worth the $2500? I’ve seen some on autotrader for upwards of $7000 and i’ve seen camrys of the same year for around $5000

This is a steal. Plus, you work at a dealership so why don't you ask one your mechanics to go over the car...

Some customers complain that our mechanics do not do a well done enough inspection most of the time, and it costs somewhere around $200. If anyone were to inspect it it would be my local independent mechanic who charges $100, which is what I'm doing tomorrow as long as the test drive goes well and I don't notice any major issues.

Thanks.

There should be a reason they sell it for that price at a dealership. Find out what it is.

Yeah there could be, even if there is an issue it uses Toyota parts so it wouldnt be like trying to fix some euro car. Most of our 'As-is' cars that are around 10 years or older all have a set price just to get rid of it quickly because they make very little money off it and it takes up space. We have a 2004 Cadillac for $3000 then the 2006 Lexus for $3000, and all other as is cars in the past have either been $3000 or lower too, I think its to get rid of the car but no clue until I drive it and inspect it.

My bet is your boss has no money in that car so he could give it to you for Christmas and not lose a dime.  He will probably sell it to the scrapman for dirt cheap if you don't buy it so his real value is probably four hundred or less.

I never understand a dealership that will screw their own for a few dollars more.

I would not buy from him on general principles.  He cares nothing about you, is not doing you a favor while abusing you.  I'd spend twice what something is worth at another dealership before spending a dollar to a boss that didn't care anymore than that about me.

I don't know about that.. I know some dealerships are like that and shame on them but our dealership is in the middle of nowhere and we're always looking for people to add onto our very small team so he gives everyone the most amount of respect they deserve for all their hard work, because if he didn't everyone would have quit by now, a lot of people there say he is one of the best GM's they've ever had. I also know his son because he was in my English class and they all seem like nice people, I don't think he would fuck me over for a few hundred dollars, especially since he knows I have to pay for tuition myself in University. Maybe if I were still working at Mercedes-Benz they'd try to fuck me over haha.

Your faith in them gives you permission to accept their deal for you.
