Hey guys, I was looking into buying a 2006 Lexus GS300, but I see some things online about carbon build up problems and transmission issues with that model year, is it still worth picking up? Auction lot wants 3200 and it has 106k miles, but needs a new starter.
Any 17-year-old luxury car is likely to have problems. Also buying cars with an unknown history from an auction, where you can't even have a mechanic give it a thorough examination, is not a good idea.
They are known to have sludge problems, but the main question is how it's been cared for in the past 15 years. Also, typically, the cars that go to auction are the ones that dealers feel will be hard to sell. If the owner/dealer won't do so much a throw a starter on the car, how good is it likely to be? The fact that it isn't running makes it impossible to do a test drive and see what's wrong and right with the car,

Definitely a pass. Look for another car.
I was sketchy on it as is since it was from an auction lot, but I appreciate your guys' feedback tremendously, thank you guys
