Hi Scotty.

I’m looking at a used 2006 AWD automatic Lexus IS 250 with 115,792 miles located at Gregory Hyundai in Highland Park, Illinois. I’ve read about a lot of carbon build up issues with this car. I saw your video on the IS and I know how much you like them. I’ve also seen your carbon build up video as well. If I get this car do I try to clean it with the CRC cleaner? What are your thoughts on this issue? Should I be concerned? Any other issues I should be looking for with this car? Any guidance you can give me would be greatly appreciated. My car knowledge isn’t the best but I trust your judgment. I welcome your advice, thoughts and suggestions. Thank you!

John from GLENVIEW, Illinois

Clarification: which carbon build up video?

You can use the carbon cleaner I personally don't see that many problems in those engines but if you're curious you can always have a mechanic take out a couple spark plugs and look inside with a borescope to see what shape any carbon deposits would be inside

Bear in mind those IS's eat front tires at a very rapid clip every 10-20K miles due to a design flaw that causes excessive inner front tire wear.

I was thinking about  buying a used IS 350 but will no longer do that because of this issue
