2006 Mazda Miata MX-5 137000 miles automatic transmission, code P0401 erg valve, what is the easiest way to get to the valve to replace it? It looks like I may have to remove the hood plus

Yes they don't have much working room and those things on fortunately. But the labor manuals only pays her half an hour labor so it doesn't take that long for a good mechanic just look closely and see what you have to remove to access the bolts to get it off
Would it be better to try and clean it by spraying STP® Professional Series Diesel EGR Cleaner in the air intake first? Or should I just bite the bullet and change the valve?
