Hi Scotty, I have a 2001 Saturn SL2, manual transmission, 1.9L L4 DOHC engine, with 240,000 miles. The air conditioner cuts out during acceleration, which I think it is supposed to do to allow more power from the engine. However, if I am going over 60 mph and I accelerate too fast, the a/c will cut out and will not come back on until the vehicle speed drops below 60 mph. If I don't accelerate too fast, the the a/c will not cut out and will continue to operate normally. Below 60 mph, if I accelerate, the a/c will cut out but then will come back on once the acceleration is over (assuming I stay below 60 mph). Any ideas what may be causing this and why 60 mph seems to be the magic number?
Yeah those had stupid shut off systems and I would assume you shut off system is breaking if I were you and it really bothers you I would just run a toggle switch from the battery to the AC clutch to turn it on manually and then you'd know it's just the electronic controls and I'd leave it with a switch
Thanks for the answer Scotty, I will definitely have to give the toggle switch a try. It is kind of a pain to have the a/c cutout on the interstate and then trying to find an area where I can slow down to below 60 without making other drivers mad 😀 .
