Is this a good car for 1,700$ with 162,xxx miles?
Don’t do it! Get a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris instead. That Mitsubishi is on its last legs.
No matter what you buy, have it checked out by a reputed mechanic, before you buy it. Especially will such old, cheaply made vehicles.
It’s worth nothing if the engine or transmission needs work.
So when you say to get I checked by a mechanic how would I do that if I drive ab 2hrs to look at the car? Do I like go to any mechanic shop near there?
well no you would want to have someone trusted to do it. Also, don't go 2 hours to look at a junky Mitsubishi you can find better deals back home for example maybe you will find a 99 Toyota Camry for 2500 bucks and that is worth a lot more and you will be able to have your trusted mechanic check it out.
I agree it’s not worth a 2hr drive to check out that Mitsubishi. What are your options where you’re located at? Anything at all for <$2000? Also, do you have a trusted mechanic in your area?
I don’t have a trusted mechanic and I don’t know where to find one. And what if it was a 2003 Nissan Maxima that has 121,xxx miles for 2,700? Are those pretty for a car that won’t get driven too much?
@inthrustwetrust
They are decent cars but that is expensive for one in my opinion.
That Maxima is no good with 121,000 miles either. Besides, it’s not even worth $1000 at that age!
May I ask what city/town you live in? Maybe I can look at online listings in your area to expand your search options a little?
Yes give us your city and we could look for you on craigslist.
I live in Poolesville Maryland
And what ab a 2004 Toyota Matrix with 144,xxx miles for 1,800$?
@kerem. @inthetrustwetrust
@inthrustwetrust
Matrix are better vehicles 1800 is pretty low I would check it out but only but it if it shifts nice and the mechanical condition is good.
@Jaylenriggs12 Okay that Matrix with a manual transmission sounds promising for $1800, however, it needs to be checked out by a mechanic, before you buy it. It’s this one isn’t it? https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/d/chantilly-2004-toyota-matrix-spd/7255258239.html

@inthrustwetrust could also give his opinion on these. Hope these help.
Dang that’s my bad I forgot to tell you that I was looking for a manual only but I did see the Toyota Solera that could be an option.
No worries! Start with the Matrix, that looks good for the asking price. It does have some dings, but that’s okay as it gives you more reason to knock off a little more off of the asking price. Check beforehand for a mechanic where the car is located or bring along someone who’s technically well versed with cars.
One more question about the matrix. Do they have oil burning problems? For the 2004?
The 09 2.4 models had oil burning, none of the other years.
Look for different cars here are the links me and inthrustwetrust compiled:

Same thing thing I told the other guy that I forgot to tell you that I was only looking for manual car but I did see the Corolla that could an option.
No prob you should think about cars like the Toyota Solara, Corolla, Matrix, and Honda Civic/Fit.
Junky car but if you get it a lot cheaper it could be ok for a while.
I might suggest buying a better quality car from General Motors or Chrysler over a Mitsubishi Mirage. However if do buy the Mirage a bus pass will also be a wise purchase.
Savage!
