2006 Mustang hard to get in gear.

Scotty, I’ve got a 2006 Ford Mustang with 114,000 miles and a manual transmission. I’ve had the car since 2007 and it’s been a pretty solid car with no real mechanical problems, at least until now. Lately it’s often very hard to get it to shift into gear, and sometimes it just won’t go in at all. First, second, and reverse are typically the hardest to shift into. I haven’t really had any issues with gears grinding, just very hard to shift. What do you think the most likely issue(s) are?

Are you still on your original clutch?

This is likely a clutch problem, as @InThrustWeTrust said. If you aren't grinding, then your synchros are fine. About the only issues those Mustangs had that made shifting into gear difficult were clutches (typical maintenance and you're at the mileage for a new one if you are still on the original) and bent shift forks. But the forks only got bent if you were really power shifting the car a lot.

I would look at a new clutch kit. They aren't expensive. Install is a pain but you can DIY if you want to.
