Scotty and friends my dad came across this 2006 Saturn Vue as a 2nd hand/spare car not a daily driver. Runs good new tires and oil was just changed. It has 192,000 miles front wheel drive with a V6 3.5 Honda engine It’s had 3 owners according to carfax but no accidents reported the guy was looking to get $3,000 my dad offered $2,500 but he would only go down to $2,700. What are your thoughts on the car and price? Should he go for it or not? Again It would only be a 2nd hand car not a daily driver his daily driver is a 2015 Honda CR-V Awd with 110,000

The price is ridiculous for a 16 year old Saturn nearing 200k miles. If you can't go below 2500 like your father offered, walk away. If you can't have a mechanic do a 1 hour or so pre-purchase inspection on it before purchase, walk away. They are OK vehicles not that well made but that is high mileage I personally would not pay more than 1500 bucks for one.

If the transmission checks out to be good, it should be a good backup car as you said. $2700 still seems high for a 15 year old Saturn with that many miles - I personally would not pay more than $2000 for that car.

Well I have an update the cars still for sale it’s now lowered to $2000 from $2700 last week originally asking $3000. Again 2006 Saturn Vue FWD 3.5 V6 Honda motor with 192,000 miles new tires and fresh oil change runs good drivers seat is ripped on the bottom left side. I understand they do not make Saturn anymore and has poor Gm quality but it’s got the same Honda engine that’s in my in-laws 2006 Ridgeline that has even more miles than that Saturn. Would it still be worth buying for $2000 as a non daily driver?

See below for issues reported for the 2006 Saturn Vue with the top one being electrical issues.  At that high mileage you can definitely expect some.

Yeah there’s even more reported issues on Nhtsa 300 total complaints for the 2006 alone 100 complaints for electrical and 90 for the air bag this may explain why he can’t sell it and lowering the price but I thought a Honda motor would make an exception Scotty says Honda makes the best engines and also says if you can get any car that you pay very little to nothing drive until the wheels fall off and if something breaks junk the stupid thing in those exact words. I’m still gonna keep my eye on it see if the price drops even lower.

Well the motor being a Honda is one thing, but with cars you have to look at the complete package, and electrical problems (esp. gremlins) can be tricky to resolve sometimes. Are you guys mechanically inclined and like to troubleshoot cars? If you say yes, then I’d say “What the heck. Might be OK to get.” But if you say no, I’d avoid it.

We’re not mechanical which is why we’re Honda and Toyota people My dad drives a 2015 Honda CRV and I drive a 2016 Toyota RAV4 we just thought it would be nice to have a spare vehicle as a back up but not desperate. I agree you do have a point I never really cared for Saturn myself And the Vue is an ugly looking car too lol but that particular one did run and good and did have it checked out. it did also have 3 previous owners which also explains it may of had those problems and such
