Scotty my best friends brother just bought a 2006 Subaru Impreza AWD for $1500. Good car or a pile of junk? Is it good for his first car? It’s technically not his very first car but his first car was a 2002 VW Jetta 2.0L that he got ripped off on, it had an overheating problem and broke down on the way too his drivers test. He got rid of it less than a month after he bought it. Is this Subaru going to be any better? I believe it’s an automatic transmission.
Hard to go wrong for $1500 but if it still has original head gaskets they'll probably start leaking in the not too distant future. As Scotty says, automatic transmissions are also a weak point. I'd say just drive the thing until something expensive goes wrong with it, saving up for a replacement along the way.
