Hi Scotty!
I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix (Automatic) that makes a loud somewhat rattling noise after starting the engine and sometimes persists for a few minutes thereafter. I had a mechanic tell me that because of the high mileage and advanced age of the vehicle that the noise is the oil reservoir feeding oil to the engine in cold weather and that it’s nothing to worry about. The noise has gotten worse albeit with the colder winter temps, should I get a second opinion?

It could be that but more often it is the variable valve timing assembly rattling a little which cost a fortune to repair and often people drive them years that way as long as they don't clank once the engine is warmed up
