2007 4runner Sport 4WD Rear Gate Latch fails to latch

I have a 2007 Toyota 4runner Sport 4WD auto with 107,350miles; Initial problem, the liftgate release switch rubber cover deteriorated making the switch-button stick in the pushed position. I purchased OEM online (Genuine Liftgate Release Switch for 2003-2013 Toyota 4Runner - 84840-35010) Replaced and when tested, the Rear Gate Latch did not work properly. I did not have any issues with the Rear Gate Latch previously. The Rear Gate Latch only makes its first-round to latching the liftgate and sometimes makes the complete cycle to secure closed. The Liftgate Release Switch does not work once the Rear Gate Latch either halfway latched or completely. I can open manually but I cannot get it to make its complete cycle every time. From research online, some stated to disconnect the battery before changing the Release Switch, but I have unplugged wires to the component power box on the hatch then re-plugged thinking this box needs a reset. No success. Any suggestions? I am thinking of purchasing a new Rear Gate Latch (Genuine Toyota 69110-35062 Parts 69110-35090) if this is the issue but I am thinking it could be a computer ritual dealer has in place? The dealer will not provide any info. In fact, I had to go to 5 dealers to find out torque requirements when preparing to replace the CV boots on this nice ride.

Congratulations on your move and thanks for all your videos to help; my experience is a DIY, I have replaced the CV boots on both sides of my ride and I complete the brake/oil changes when needed.

Yeah those stupid automatic layer bunch of crazy nonsense may I live without the stupid thing I like mechanical stuff when you're not dealing with other computer garbage. As long as you can get the stupid thing open and lock I just live with whatever else it does
