Hey Scotty, love watching your videos......just bought a 2007 camry, v6, 3.5 engine, 181k miles, should i change transmission fluid and
if I should change it, is Lucas Multi-vehicle atf fluid semi-synthetic a good brand or
ACDelco dexron -VI atf full synthetic a good brand..? thanks
I would change it (if the trannny has never had issues) and use Toyota fluid.
if you never changed it, I would not change it. Just change the filter. If has been changed regularly I would go for Toyota fluid. The price is not that much different anyways.
Just leave it alone. On high mileage transmissions that never had the fluid changed there is a higher risk of slippage when the fluid is changed. That’s why most shops have you sign a waiver before they change the fluid if the car is over 75k miles. Personally I’ve seen transmissions with 250k miles with the original fluid that were shifting good and after changing the fluid now slip. However I’ve seen transmissions with 140k miles where the torque converter barely engaged and after Replacing the fluid started engaging perfectly. So basically if it’s shifting smooth and not having any issues just leave it be. If it’s slipping take a shot at replacing the fluid and add the and use Toyota transmission fluid. Those 6 speed Toyota trannys are very picky.
Thanks for the response, much appreciated.
