Hello,
I purchased an '07 Highlander last February with 125,000 miles for my daughter to take to college. The transmission fluid was very dark and smelled bad. The transmission shifted fine. I did two drain & fills and inadvertently used Dex. III instead of the Toyota spec. fluid. My daughter and I drove it for a couple of thousand miles over the summer. It ran fine. When I checked the fluid before sending it off to school, the fluid looked like metallic paint. It did three drain and fills with the correct fluid with some driving in between. What do you think happened? How much should I be worried? Should I do any more drain and fills or leave it alone?
Thank you very much.
Very much appreciate the videos.
Never use non-OEM ATF for any car. The metallic color suggests that your transmission is wearing out. I would baby the transmission and probably would not hand it to a kid to avoid future transmission issues.
Thanks.
