2007 Honda Civic AC intermittent

2007 Honda Civic with 125K miles. As start-up a/c works just fine. After a few minutes, the a/c stops working. Had the system completely evacuated and then refilled - no help. A/C clutch seems to stay engaged throughout. Mechanic said compressor but also said needed to replace condensor and expansion value which doesn't make sense to me. Don't want to sink $2000-$3000 into a 17 year old vehicle.  Suggestions?

If the A/C clutch is staying engaged, your compressor is probably starting to wear out and become inefficient. Keep track of your receipt and run the A/C over the next couple weeks, hopefully when weather conditions are similar. If the A/C clutch starts to stop and start, you have a leak, most likely in the condenser, as it's the most exposed part of the system. The condenser sits in front of the radiator, and it's constantly being exposed to debris. Given that it's a 2007, it's almost a certainty at this point.

Take it to a good HVAC specialist who can give the system a proper diagnosis.
